<image:title>Articles - Pride is still important in 2024 - Especially for LGBTQ+ young People in Ireland - Another attention-grabbing headline this year:</image:title>
<image:caption>The American FBI and Department of Homeland Security have issued a warning that Pride celebrations around the world may be “exploited” by terrorist organizations. This is another threat for the community to navigate, and might lead some to feel tempted to simply not go to Pride, to hide, to keep oneself safe. I would absolutely empathize with anyone who determines for themselves that attending a Pride celebration this year is not worth their own personal safety. However, I believe this only further highlights the importance of attending. Going to your local Pride celebration, despite these threats, is an ongoing act of political and social resistance. It is a way of demonstrating community resilience. It is a way of saying that we will not be erased from society. We will not be forced to carry shame in ourselves simply for being who we are. We will not be bullied back into the closet.</image:caption>

<image:title>Articles - Adult Autism Assessments in Ireland - Why get assessed?</image:title>
<image:caption>As we have established that being autistic is simply a normally occurring human neurotype, you might be wondering why anyone would bother undergoing an assessment to determine their neurotype at all. There are several benefits from undergoing the assessment process, even as adults. The first is that having a better insight and understanding of oneself can be a therapeutic experience. Second, autistic people might need fair accommodations to thrive in school/college/work, and often accessing these accommodations requires documentation of their needs from a mental health professional such as a psychologist or psychiatrist, at least in Ireland. Third, depending on their level of need, some autistic people might be eligible for other supports or access to governmental services - however again these often require documentation to access.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Articles - Gender-affirming mental health care in Ireland - Mental Health Considerations</image:title>
<image:caption>It is important to note the being gender diverse is not a mental health issue in itself. The mental health issues that gender diverse people can face often arise as a result of living a world that is hostile to their identity. Gender diverse people are more likely to experience prejudicial treatment, discrimination, and even violence as a result of their identity. This mistreatment can be perpetuated by strangers on the street, institutions such as school or workplace environments, or even by members of their own family. Concerns can also arise due to gender dysphoria, which is a feeling of unease that can arise when living in a way which does not align with a person’s gender identity. The good news is that gender dysphoria is a very treatable concern which is alleviated through gender affirming care. For some people simply accepting and affirming their identity can be sufficient to alleviate feelings of gender dysphoria. Others may wish to transition (meaning to live aligned with their gender identity) which can involve social, psychological, behavioural, and medical interventions.</image:caption>

<image:caption>There has been an abundance of peer-reviewed articles published in psychological journals which have highlighted the benefits of gender affirming care, and most reputable professional organizations including the World Health Organization (WHO), the American Psychological Association (APA), and the World Professional Organization for Transgender Health (WPATH) all highlight gender affirming care as the most beneficial intervention for working with gender dysphoria.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Articles - Why choose a telehealth therapist? - Finding the right therapist</image:title>
<image:caption>We know from the research that the most predictive factor for positive client outcomes is a perceived “goodness of fit” with their therapist. But what if the therapist who might be the best fit for you isn’t located just around the corner? If you live in a rural area or an area with a lack of available therapists you might have very few options for meeting with someone local, and likely even fewer potential therapists who might be great matches for you. Unfortunately, we know that in Ireland many services are focused around the major cities, which can cause people living in the country to feel overlooked. With telehealth therapy, your geographic location is much less of a concern, and the number of potential therapists you can meet with dramatically increases.</image:caption>

<image:title>Articles - Why choose a telehealth therapist? - Research Support for telehealth therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>There have been several peer-reviewed articles posted in psychological journals which have highlighted the benefits of telehealth therapy. Most of these articles conclude that telehealth therapy is effective for use with a wide range of clients and concerns. Teletherapy continues to be a highly researched area at the moment and new evidence for its use continues to be published at a rapid pace. This means you can feel confident that booking a telehealth appointment is not a “lesser option” than a traditional in-person appointment.</image:caption>
